Yasmin @ The Old Queen's Head this Friday

Come down this Friday!

Monday 29 November 2010

R.I.P. Leslie Nielson

R.I.P. Leslie Nielson, who recently passed away at the age of 84.

I used to watch the Naked Gun series loads when I was a kid, as well as "Airplane". I may have to dig these movies out and watch them this week; they just don't make spoof movies like they used to!

After reading about his acting career on Wikipedia, I had no idea he starred in over 100 films and 1,500(!) television shows...Legendary!

Redman on Tim Westwood's Show (Video)

Looking forward to the new album...

Kozzie "Back Again" (Music Video)

KOZZIE BACK AGAIN from Creative Control on Vimeo.

DIrected by Creative Control, who you may remember produced the video for SKi Beatz' "Do It Big" featuring The Cool Kids & Stalley.

Kozzie has definitely turned a few heads this year; from smashing up Tim & Barry's "Just Jam" events, to vocalling "Spartan", as well as this monster of a beat from Lewi White ("Metal Face"), he's emerged as one of names to watch out for in the Grime Scene.

This one's a banger!

Out 29th November on Boogaloo City, which is a new digital label run by my boy Blazey.

The 001 includes remixes from Mensah & Superisk, and Asa & Kahn. If you like your instrumental Grime, and your Dubstep, then this is well worth checking out. Support my boy and cop this from the outlets mentioned in the e-flyer.

Nike Air Force 1 Destroyer Black Pack

Here's some pics of the Nike Air Force 1 Destroyer Black Pack, which was released today at the Nike Sportswear store on Mercer St in NYC.

Nike has added new elements to the Destroyer jacket by taking the classic Letterman jacket and adding cashmere and leather accents to it. The Air Force 1 is designed by NikeiD Bespoke, using premium leathers and materials too. If only I lived in NYC...

Lil Kim "Black Friday" (Nicki Minaj Diss)

Kim responds to the shots fired on "Roman's Revenge" by going in over Pharoahe Monch's "Simon Says" instrumental. She's still got it...

Nicki may be relevant at the moment, but will she still be here in 5-10 years? I doubt it... Your thoughts?

Just got this in the mailbox from DJ Hypnotikk

Taken from the the Labwerx 12-hour takeover of WUOG 90.5 last Saturday, this mix contains a bunch of nice, rowdy jump up Dubstep for your ears... Turn this up loud and wake the neighbours.

Rick Ross "B.M.F." (Live in London)

I'm pissed that I didn't get the chance to go to this concert. I had a feeling it was going to be hype, but daaaaaaamn, it proper went off! Undeniably the biggest Hip Hop club banger this year.

J. Cole Wants to collaborate with P Money...

Just stumbled upon this over at Soul Culture.

In a nutshell, J. Cole spoke to journalist Marvin Sparks for Flavour Mag the other night, where he revealed that he’d be interested in collaborating with one of the Grime scene's best emcees, P-Money.

While he knew little about P Money, he praised his talent, quoting his bars and explaining that he’d seen him on youtube and he’d be keen to work with him. J. Cole is heading to London in January to tour with Drake, so who knows... we might see come kind of stateside collaboration in early 2011! This is massive look for P, who's already had a very successful year within both the Grime and Dubstep scenes.

Listen to the excerpt from the interview below:

The material J. Cole had heard was P-Money’s F64, filmed by SB.TV

True Tiger Feat. P Money "Slang Like This" (Music Video)

Been meaning to post this for a couple of weeks.... Here's the official video for one of the biggest Grime/Dubstep tunes of the year.

Check out the cameo towards the end from yours truly!

DJ Cable - BBC 1Xtra Guest Mix for CJ Beatz (16th Nov 2010)

Shouts to CJ Beatz, who recently invited me on to his R&B mixshow on BBC 1Xtra for guest mix and a quick chat.

Having had only a few minutes to plan my mix due to spending all day at Maida Vale, I decided to go in with a mish mash of 90's R&B/New Jack Swing, some uptempo club tracks, southern Hip Hop, Dubstep & Grime, throwing in a cheeky live mashup for good measure :)

Mick Boogie "93 Til’ Infinity Mix... Inspired by NBA JAM" (Mixtape)

A new mix from Mick Boogie? In conjunction with the release of the new NBA Jam? You know this is going to be fire! Here's the official blurb:

NYC-based Mick Boogie, known for his eclectic DJ sets and amazing mixtapes, is also an avid basketball fan and a video game junkie. With the recent return of the classic 90’s arcade game NBA JAM (now refreshed and remixed for 2010), Mick was inspired to put together a mixtape of classic and rare 90’s remixes that serve as the soundtrack to where we were back in the day. Being that NBA JAM dropped in 1993… Mick’s decision to call the mix “93 Til’ Infinity” was the only appropriate choice!

In addition to the mixtape, Mick collaborated with vintage t-shirt designers Homage to create a limited edition NBA JAM/93 Til Infinity inspired tee to celebrate the release of this mix and the videogame. You can find the shirt here.

Nike SB Dunk Hi Premium "Blackout"

Here's a couple of pics of an upcoming Nike SB Dunk Hi that have recently leaked online. I find a lot of SB's hit and miss, but recently they've been on point with the colourways and materials. Featuring an all black leather upper, a leather tongue and a black suede swoosh, this SB Dunk features "all black everything". No Jay-Z.

Release date is unknown, but I'm pretty sure we can expect these to drop by Spring 2011.

Yasmin "On My Own" (Preview) & Maida Vale Pics

Following her recent feature on Devlin's "Runaway", here's a preview of Yasmin's debut single "On My Own", produced by Shy FX. Trust me when I say this is one name that you will definitely be hearing a lot from in 2011.

I was also honoured to be a part of her recent Maida Vale live session this week, which should be airing on BBC 1Xtra sometime soon. I've DJ'ed for various artists in the past for club sets and PAs, and jammed with various musicians, but to actually be part of a band and record something at the legendary Maida Vale studios was an incredible experience; it's definitely been one of the highlights of my DJ career so far.

I managed to grab a few pics of the session too (click to enlarge):

I also gotta give a massive shout out to Octave, Gareth Brown & Tokio - These dues are mad talented.

"On My Own" will be available 24th January, via Ministry of Sound/Levels Recordings.

Maverick Sabre "The Travelling Man Mixtape"

Brand new heat from the talented artist who recently featured Professor Green's track, "Jungle".

Alongside Dream McLean's "Purple Promo Vol. 3", and Sway's "The Delivery 2", this is easily one of the best UK mixtapes I've heard all year. Keep an eye out for this guy in 2011.

Kanye West Feat. Pusha T, CyHi Da Prynce, Big Sean & J. Cole "Looking For Trouble"

I've been following these G.O.O.D. Music leaks for a while now. Whilst most of them have been dope, there have been the odd few that have taken me a few listens to properly get into ("Runaway" for example). This one comes under the "dope" category...

Utilising the a sample from "Blues Dance Raid" by Steel Pulse (which Cam'ron had previously used for "Bubble Music"), everyone involved (especially Pusha & J. Cole) kicks a solid verse on this posse cut.

From hoodies to bow-ties, collars, bandanas and beyond, the majority of this crazy line up is also decorated in the label’s signature green camo print.

Tinchy Stryder Feat. Giggs, Professor Green, Tinie Tempah, Devlin, Example & Chipmunk "Game Over" (Music Video)

2010 has been the year of the posse cut, no doubt!

Taken from Tinchy's forthcoming album, "Third Strike", this track sees an allstar UK lineup. Granted, I would have loved to have seen someone like JME, Skepta, P Money, or even DIzzee jump on this, but everyone involved laid down a solid verse... especially Giggs, Devlin, and Tinie.

Let's hope a few freestyles start making their way on to the internet...
